Rousing Review Craving Success
Rousing Review Craving Success I met Melody Biringer at the World Domination Summit, but her name preceded her she was the founder of The CRAVE Company, which published the book that I was gonna be in (it came out a few weeks after WDS)! She was also friends with Molly Mahar, so I knew she was good people. I was so excited to meet her, and we hit it off right away, connecting as fearless Women of the World often do (I love that Im one of those!). Maybe this was because, as Lisa Johnson describes Melody in the Foreword, We are both deeply committed to helping women create a life where what they do all day, and what they feel like they are born to do, become the same thing. See the connection? So, when I headed to the beach last weekend, I decided to take Melodys Craving Success: A Startup Junkies Path to Passion and Profit with me. Knowing Melodys personality, I expected a fun, engaging book all about her entrepreneurial pursuits all 20+ of them! And while I was absolutely right it was a fun, engaging book that I devoured in about 3 hours I was also mad at her for planting so many a-ha! moments and takeaways in my head. I mean, I expected a beach read, for Petes sake! Heres what Melodys stories of her start-up failures and successes proved to me: You dont need much money to start a profitable business Melody said that her capital grew as her ventures grew, but her most successful businesses started with farm stands made by her then-boyfriend, photos taken by her husband, and copy written by her friends. She never talked about loans, or capital, and when one business cost her $50K upfront she took it from her house renovation fund. She listed that choice as an Uh-Oh, aka a mistake, as she breaks down both the positive and negative things she took away from each business at the end of each chapter. Yummy bites o business brilliance, they are. Experiment to see what sticks, and run with what works She calls it her seeds of success (love the alliteration!), and the life coach in me loves that Melody was always tweaking/chucking what didnt work and running with what did. Failure is a misnomer Melody writes that Failure doesnt need to be feared. It needs to be mulched into fertilizer for the next hot idea. While Melody told me it wasnt always so easy to pick herself up and dust herself off after an idea failed (did I tell you I interviewed her and itll be up tomorrow? Because I did and it will!), she saw each failure as the opposite: a win. Isnt it just as important to know what doesnt work? And that hey, no matter what it wont kill ya! Instead, its something to be embraced, as itll lead you to what will be a success. All you have to do is ask! Seriously, if the worst that can happen is that someone tells you No, do it. If thats the only thing holding you back, its a win-win no matter what. Dont expect overnight successes Melody had me laughing out loud when she wrote that it only took a decade to find success. I dont even think it was supposed to be funny, but thats what I loved the sincerity of it. It definitely made me pause, see the pressure I was putting on myself as a 16-month-old-entrepreneur, and stop it already. Ease and Passion is the foundation of a Success Formula In looking back over these 17 businesses that Ive run, it seems that everything that Ive done that was somewhat successful happened with ease. I think its because those businesses were natural evolutions of my passions. Ive been learning this first-hand, too. I loved going on Melodys journey from lemonade stand boss (seriously, she didnt work in it she just hired the other 8 year olds and took their money at the end!) to feeding her craving/CRAVEing. If youre even simply thinking of being an entrepreneur, or youre a Renaissance Soul who thinks you have to pick just one thing, or youre looking for a sassy Woman of the World who will be funny, vulnerable and truthful, then you want Craving Success! _______________________________________ Join me at 3p Eastern today (its live! its virtual! its free! its amazeballs!) for an Etsy Success QA: Running Your Creative Small Business While Still Being a Grown-Up!
